Is forgiveness always possible?
At sixteen, Emma MacEilan has seemingly moved on from her past. She's found stability as the maid to a rich woman, who pushes Emma into high society for reasons of her own. Emma makes a debut in society as the lady's American niece, giving her a different name, an accent, and a secret to hide from her siblings. 
She grows popular as Miss Emma Remigrant, the girl that is gone every weekend to a place society cannot figure out, and she enjoys the flattering attention of the city's young men- and especially of a certain dashing heir- but has he fallen in love with her as Emma MacEilan or Emma Remigrant? And when a familiar man seems to have found her, he brings the darkness and pain of the past she's tried so hard to forget and move away from. Can she see past it, and perhaps forgive him? What will society think if she does? If she doesn't?
Society has its dark secrets and ways of bringing things to light- things that Emma and her employer would rather keep hidden... and jealousy will go to any length to get satisfaction.
