Emmaline is a normal teenage girl, right? She might have a patch, but it's like none anyone has ever seen before and she has no sign of the powers the other people who have patches, called alemos, have. The people who have them are called the Elementals and their alemos are patches of skin that have been turned into a scene of natural existences; it might be a swirling circle of sand on their shoulder or a ring of fire around their ankle. These alemos tell what element they are able to control but Emmaline's is a mixture of all she's ever seen, or heard of, fighting to be seen through her alemo on her palm. 

When she meets Calore, a boy with the exact same alemo as her, she becomes even more confused, but time is running out to find the truth as another Elemental figures out what he can do.
