Kay-c, a good girl, has been through hell and is still in it, except when she is at school. Even though she doesn't have any friends and the Paisley "Queen P" of the school won't leave her alone. It's still better than being home. Anything is better than her abusive father, who beats her because he blames Kay-C for her mothers death. School is the only place where she has ever felt safe. Her senior year, a new teacher arrives and Kay-C becomes less and less invisible. Why, she doesn't know she prefers the background silence. Her voice always has a stutter ever since her mom died. So she keeps her mouth shut, as much as possible and her eyes glued to the ground.
