Lin is a twelve year old with a lot on her plate. The oldest of three, she is nervous of going to the Acadamie. The most prestigious school of the Arts in her country. She doesn't know if she has what it takes to become a Magi, a wielder of the Arcanic arts, and what's worse she doesn't know if she even is ready to separate from her family.

It all takes a backseat when whispers of war plague her city. Now her family must vacate from the only home she has ever known. But as they leave their doorstep to go into the unknown, it seems it will not be an easy task for them. It would appear war is at their doorstep, and the whispers are now loud shouts of anguish and pain. What will Lin do to survive? What lengths will she go to? And what is in store for her in this war?
