Victoria stood frozen in the doorway, her eyes glancing over the room as if examining a painting. She remembered the room by heart, despite not having seen it in over a year, and the mere sight of it made her dizzy. She had let all of it go, put it all behind her, and yet there she was, standing in the doorway, faced with the one question she always dreaded answering. Opening that door had been like reopening a wound.

"He took a step closer, his gaze never leaving mine, and reached out with his uninjured hand to gently cup my face. His touch was tender, contrasting with the storm of emotions raging inside him. "Just say you'll be mine, Vic," he whispered, his voice softer now, almost pleading. "I know you love me too." He was right. I did love him. Ever since that day I helped him with his tie, I had begun to care for him in ways I didn't want to admit. I had tried to deny it, tried to convince myself that I could never fall for the obnoxious jerk I once knew. But here I was, standing in front of him, my defenses crumbling, my heart laid bare. "I...
