His father didn't approve at all he wanted Nicolas to date Katherine His ex. Nicolas didn't love Katherine, he loved Veronica.
Since that Nicolas' father kidnapped Veronica and tortured her, while that was happening Nicolas was in the village staying with his mother. He then started hanging out with Katherine he told her to move on and she ran into the forest and was never seen since then....
