Ice Me Out [SAMPLE] di anboyden

**This is a sample of my ongoing story "Ice Me Out". The story continues on Inkitt! The link is in my bio!** Vera Gray is desperate when her father blindsides her with the news that he cannot make her upcoming tuition payment. She has only a week to come up with $25,000 for her tuition, or she will be forced to drop her courses. Just when all hope seems lost, her roommate and best friend, Monica, suggests she join a sugar baby site called Sugar Rush. Although Vera is initially repulsed by the idea of becoming a sugar baby, she sets aside her reservations with Monica's encouragement and decides to sign up for the app. Hart Myers, star forward for the Washington Wizards, may be smooth on the ice, but he struggles in his relationships with women. His demanding ice hockey career keeps him on the road for several months each year-not ideal for a man nicknamed 'Hartbreak,' who has difficulty with commitment. Despite this, Hart often feels lonely while traveling, especially when his teammates are with their partners. Seeking a connection without emotional ties, he joins Sugar Rush, hoping to find a stable situationship. When he discovers Vera's profile, he is intrigued. She appears confident and knows exactly what she wants: a sugar daddy who will leave his feelings behind and provide her with financial support. It doesn't take long for these opposites to attract, leading to broken rules as their steamy relationship becomes public. However, Vera soon learns that being a WAG isn't as glamorous as it seems. She faces challenges like jealous puck bunnies, relentless social media attention that threatens to expose her secret identity, shady teammates, and jealousy.

"What is wrong with you, Memphis? What the hell happened?" "I don't know, Houston. Stop asking me so many questions." "You aren't supposed to remember my name. You aren't supposed to remember anything. Where do the Sabres play? When did our eight week old kitten get killed? Did the Bruins beat the Canadiens last week? What did our father die from?" "Uh...the Sabres play at KeyBank Center. As for Elliot, he died on June 6, 2042. The B's fell to the Habs 4-1 in Montreal last week, and our father was hit by a car. What do you want, Houston? Why are we turning this into an interrogation room?" "It's because, Memphis, three days ago was your fourteenth birthday. On that day, all your memories were to be erased, but it didn't work. You seem to remember over half your memories, but you aren't supposed to remember even one." ** The year is 2049. Twenty-five years ago, scientists revealed a new plan to make the world a better place. On every person's 14th birthday, their personal memories would be completely erased, leaving them with only basic skills like walking, eating, and breathing and academic skills up to eighth grade level. From several successful tests, scientists determined that without traumatic childhood experiences, people wouldn't have as much built-up anger to release on others. Up until present day, everything has worked. But on August 1, 2049, a girl named Memphis comes back from the MemoCenter in downtown St. Louis remembering nearly everything. Memphis remembers that she was born in Laval, Canada, to Adeline and Laurent Turcotte, on July 29, 2035. She knows that she became a US citizen when her family moved to Missouri in 2038, and that her 18-year-old brother is Houston. She knows the names of all 32 NHL teams, and worst of all, she remembers every event from her childhood and early adolescence. If anyone finds out, she will be executed. Will Memphis Turcotte keep her secret, or will this be one thing she forgets? ~COMPLETED!~ Word count: about 37k

*Book one of the Counting on Hockey series* To Meredith, watching hockey was torture. But her sister was a hockey player. She wanted nothing to do with hockey, even thinking about it made her angry. But she had her reasons. Starting 10th grade at a new school, meant hockey was everything there. The whole school was obsessed with hockey. The division 1 boys team is the best in the state. Forced to go to hockey games with her sister, and going to school with these hockey 'freaks' is going to be horrible. Or so she thought. But she meets Cole, center for the high school team. Hockey won't be the same for her. Or for him. *Some NHL players in this story are real players, others are made-up* Final edit: 3/10/2022
