Dan and Phil live in a corrupt government area where it's as if everything you do is wrong. The forms of punishment for crime have changed jurastically. How you live depends strongly on how many rights you have. For example, if you have a disibility, are in the LGBTQ+ community, or have "incorrect beliefs" your rights are diminished. As Dan and Phil begin to see whats going on behind the backs of citizens, they begin to take matters into their own hands.

Cloning is now a legal and regular practice globally. Poor people give their children to be cloned then get them returned. The clones are then raised to fight in war, and nothing more. They stay in camps, with little to no privacy. Dan and Phil are clones. They meet, fall in love, and are together through it all. Up until World War Three begins and clones are beginning to be drafted yet again. Phil gets drafted almost immediately, much to Dan's dismay.
