Their mother's dead, their father's in prison, and Kenny and her brother, Jack Kelly, are thrown out to live on the streets. With nowhere else to turn, they find themselves in Kloppman's Newsboy Lodging House with many other kids whose parents are orphaned, abandoned, or just plain ran away. And as always, trouble is always right around the corner.
