Set in a world with mystical creatures, and most of all, dragons.
The dragon Queen and King from long long ago made a deal with the humans; ever year the King and Queen of the humans would hold a festival to gather 16 year olds from all over. Each country would hold one so that everyone had a chance.
After they have all met they would go one by one and place their hand upon the gem that their country is trusted with.
If the gem glows red then they would be a dragon rider, nothing would happen if you were not chosen.
On rare cases the stones have glowed a purple and they were able to meet the King and Queen dragon to see if one of their eggs would be their match.
Why do they choose riders? You may ask. Well there are evil dragons called shadow dragons who have been trying to kill the Queen and King dragons for as long as time. So will the shadow dragons take over or will they be shoved back into the shadow from wince they came?

I grew up in a world where dragon riders were revered for not only their bravery and looks, but also for their intelligence. Children would spend days on end studying just in the hopes that they would get accepted to the Rider School, and those who did get accepted left their homes like kings, followed with respect and well wishes. It had been years since a dragon rider had been accepted in the Rider School from my town, which was understandable since we boasted a population of only 100 kids in the acceptable age range.
