Let me tell you something! don't you dare!
look down on me and see me as nothing
Cuz the Color of my skin
I am more than just brown skin
I can not be defined
By the color I've been born in
Tired of people asking if I'm mixed
Like I have to be mixed to be beautiful
Like I have to be mixed! don't mistake my light skin I am not mixed with Caucasian
If you would listen to what I'm sayin
You would understand why I'm praying
Because only God can save us
From this distortion and slavery they placed us in.
Don't bond me by chains
I am a raging fire that can't be detained
I will not be trapped in society
Where they lie to me
And tell me I'm less than what I could be
Don't you dare!
Question my life as if it doesn't matter
Cuz I'll continue to climb the ladder
I'll vibrate higher
And tell you to your face you're a liar
Doing what I want outside of the limelight
Because I am the light
I'm never kicking and screaming
Because I fight
So don't you dare!
Look down on my life
And see it as nothing
Cuz the color of my skin

Why Are You Obsessed with My Race?
I wonder why people feel like they have the right to ask me about my personal life. I don't know how many times a day I am asked, "Who are you? Where are you from? What are you mixed with?" My replies to those people are, "Why do you care where I'm from? It is your business to know what I am mixed with? How dare you overstep your boundaries and violate my space? Society judges my skin color, my hair, and my exotic features. It does not accept me for being who I am. I often hear, "You are too light to be black" or "You are too dark to be white." They size me up with their eyes of hate as if I asked for their opinion. I don't owe you an explanation. I am not on trial because of my background. I didn't choose my race. I did not ask to be here -- but I am here. I am not ashamed of who I am. You asked me, "Who am I?" The real question is, why are you obsessed with my race? Why is it any of your concern? I am Stella. I am 16 years old, and I am proud of who I am! I am biracial, and I am a human being just like you.Complete

Many people don't know me, but I don't know who me is either. I can't tell you if I'm the loud or rude stereotypical black girl because Mom would say I need to speak up. I'm using my library voice with strangers. I can't tell you I'm the introvert because I like good company. I was born into a world that judges me before they get to know me. And try to attack the concept of happiness. I need it most in this filthy world we live in. I need you. Because you listened and didn't say a word. Just you being there was enough to make me believe you understood the troubles in my sentences and words spoken in a foreign language.
