The Seer: Book One || Of Black and Gold
A boy forced to be a man. A damaged genius stuck between love or obligation. A man bent on saving his wife and one who just wants to forget. A frog living under the tarantulas. A leader looking to belong. A woman pushing to save the ones who had no one fighting for them. A girl hunted by her departed parents. A sister who shouldn't exist. A brother filled with resentment. Twins stuck in their roles. A son pressured to let his love go. A daughter born again. Mothers who sacrificed theirselves for their family. A father scared of losing his peace choses control the bored. And the Collapse that forced all their fragments together. Waking up with no memory, Tait is thrown into a world of uncertainty. Possessing strange powers from another realm and haunted by a terrifying feeling that he's forgotten something crucial-possibly everything that truly matters-his forgotten but still felt agony sharpens his instinct for conflict. Although he starts utterly lost, slowly the fragments come together, revealing a clearer picture. The life he was torn from resurfaces with a chilling realization: this time, restoring his world could cost him everything-unless he can convince the gods, whose presence shafted his world to disembark. Joined by his family, Tait fights against corrupted factions that shattered his childhood and extinguished the light in many others. But are they fighting the real enemy, or is there someone controlling them all behind the scenes? The picture grows clearer, having Tait wonder if any of his actions were truly his own. This story will have something for everyone. You will find a piece of yourself within the words, or perhaps between them. Dare to look yourself in the mirror? I am republishing this for a friend who wanted to read a sample of my work. The plot is all over the place, but I know I'll revisit it in future. I initially wrote this in 2017 before I knew a lot of things I know now. There's a lot in here that is culturally insensitive. I have done my best to edit out what I could find at first glance, but if you see something glaringly offensive please make a comment about it so that I can correct my errors. The most egregious example that comes to mind is using the G-word for the Romani and relying on unflattering stereotypes. I plan to correct a lot of this in proceeding drafts. That your friends and family are monsters from the fairy tails but not all of them are truly bad creatures.
