Alex believes her sister is alive even though Hawaii search and rescue gave up years ago. Meanwhile, Alex's strange ability to heal from injury seems more curse than blessing. When she meets Nate, a handsome surfer, he presents the chance for pre-summer escape. Alex convinces her best friend Charlie to sneak away to Hina where Nate lives with a group of environmentalists called "The Ocean Alliance". Alex becomes enmeshed with the mysterious group and ends up on a dangerous voyage. She learns that her unusual healing ability and lost sister are connected to a sinister act of eco-terrorism.
