Claire's boyfriend had been killed in an 'accident' less than four months ago, and she had never recovered. She didn't go to school since than and ignored her mothers pleads to go seek help. Haunted by both nightmares and daydreams, Claire almost never left the house. 

But her mother never stopped begging for her to get help, so Claire simply lied and said she was getting better. 

So her mother made her go back to school. No one else knew the truth of what happened. They simply thought that Blake had left Claire. 

And each day Claire was told to simply move on and let him go. Like he was some illness she could recover from. But maybe the solution to moving on resided in the new boy.
