Now since Kathrine never came back, Alex is to her way to her home town, Mystic Falls. 

She reunites with her younger brothers, and all is well. Atleast for a while..

Meaning:

before she met a Mikaelson who she heard so many bad things about, and she begins doubting all the things bad about him. 

But with Kathrine, her brothers, and the Scooby gang against them being together, it becomes difficult. 

It was an epic, forbidden love.
