As the son of a Jedi Master on The Jedi Council, one of the worst things Kellan could do is to go undercover as a Sith Lord's loyal guard. After all, if he is caught, this Sith, whose only goal is to destroy the Jedi, will use any means necessary to find out what Kellan knows.
For the first eight months, everything is fine. The Sith Lord barely even knows that Kellan exists, but that all changes when Ri Corvale shows up. Upon her arrival, life for Kellan and his two friends Torin and Ran gets flipped upside down, on multiple occasions making Kellan wonder why he chose the life of a Jedi.
Suddenly, Kellan realizes that the friendships he built were on crumbling foundations, ready to topple at any second, leaving him when he is most vulnerable to fend for himself. When all hope is lost, Kellan finds an unexpected friendship in Rider, a fourteen-year-old boy on Tatooine that has wanted nothing more than to help each person he meets.
