Evangeline has never had any doubt to who she is. Her home is the Facility- she's heard about the sun and sky, but never seen them, though she doesn't want to. She has no family. Evangeline doesn't even know her age. But these are explainable to her- Evangeline is a Cyborg, created by Them to bring order to the dying world. They run constant tests on her to improve her physique, nothing out of the ordinary at all. Except it is. Because one day, during a normal test, Evangeline overworks her circuits and burns herself out. She should have died that day. But she did not. Because Evangeline is not a robot after all. In fact, none of them are.

In the reawakened Stone Age, everyone in the village believes that Gen Asagiri is a brilliant scientist. He explains complex inventions, builds incredible machines, and saves the village with logic, knowledge - and a charming smile. But the truth lies in the shadows. For the real scientist is Senku - Gen's twin sister. She lives in his shadow, fused to him like a second heartbeat. No one can see her. No one knows she exists. Except Gen. Senku is an extraordinary genius with a natural bond to the world around her. She can make plants grow, whisper to animals - and she fears people so deeply that she never reveals herself to them. Only through her brother's shadow, which she inhabits like a living veil, does she communicate with the world. And so, Gen became the voice, the mask, the scientist - for a truth that must never see the light.
