Overcoming The Darkness: Surviving Domestic Violence

I'm in the bathroom wiping the blood from my mouth. I can feel the tightness as my eye starts to swell. How did I get here, Michelle asked herself?
Michelle was from a small town in Illinois and moved to a big city in Wisconsin as a teenager. She met and fell in love with a boy named Darius. Michelle and Darius became serious very quickly. Darius was nice looking and was completely drawn to Michelle because she was different than the girls he had been chasing after. Michelle was quiet, soft spoken and had no experience with boys at all. Soon after moving to Milwaukee Michelle witnessed her mother get shot in the street and die a few days later. This tragedy brought Michelle and Darius closer together. She thought he was her knight in shining armor. Little did she know he would become her nightmare. During their 13 year relationship Michelle lost her mother, given birth to 4 children before she was 21 years old, and endured countless acts of physical and mental abuse at the hands of someone that claimed to love her. She lost her confidence, her will to live and her Faith in God. Walk with Michelle as she talks about her journey in the belly of the Darkness and how she was able to overcome it.
