While reading "VICTUALS: An Appalachian Journey, with Recipes", I was humming, tapping my feet, grinning, and "itchin' to get to the kitchen". Author Ronni Lundy and photographer Johnny Autry have wonderfully captured the essence and timelessness of the Appalachian region of America and the amazing spirit of its people. I was born and raised in the beautiful mountains of Virginia, where I still reside. This is the land of my mother and her family. My father and his family were from the hills of East Tennessee. I laughingly and proudly call myself a "Mountain-Billy". I have many friends from the proud state of Kentucky, and I long ago became enchanted by the marvelous mountain state of West Virginia. "VICTUALS" (the term is also plainly called "vittles") offers an inside look at an area of our country which is frequently stereotyped. It's a way of life where great poverty often exists alongside great pride. Appalachia is a country within a country where a violin became a fiddle, and the music and dance of Scottish-Irish heritage became known as "Blue Grass". It's where you fix up a "mess of kress", make apple butter outdoors in a big copper kettle over a wood fire, and you cook a pot of beans or a pan of greens with a ham hock or a hunk of fatback or side meat. Perfectly delicious and golden-crusted cornbread bakes in a well-seasoned and blackened old cast iron skillet. You wait, impatiently, for hand-cranked vanilla ice cream served with fresh seasonal fruit. Recipes include: "Karl Worley's Roasted Chicken & Dumplings"; "Mama's Mashed Potatoes"; "Killed Lettuce"; "Country Ham, Ramps, and Taters"; "Old-Style Vanilla Ice Cream"; "Real Cornbread"; "Buttermilk Brown Sugar Pie"; "Mountain Green Beans & Taters"; "Pork & Kraut in Cider Gravy with Noodles"; "Old-School Tomato Gravy"; and many more equally memorable recipes. Born in Corbin, Kentucky, RONNI LUNDY has long chronicled the people of the hills.

Justin Bourne is a divorced accountant in North Carolina who has inherited the care and maintenance of his deceased Grandparent's 75+ year old farm in Union County, NC just outside of Charlotte and Monroe. On a routine visit, Justin discovers some "love letters" written to his Grandmother, Emma Mae, when she was a young girl. The letters are from a boy named Cory who lived a few miles up the Sugar and Wine road on a farm with his parents and brother, Gus. Cory and Emma happened to meet at a church social picnic by Chancel's Creek - a creek that weaves throughout the letters and the farmlands. Cory and Emma continue to see each other when Cory's father stops by Emma's Dad's farm to buy muscadine grapes at their family store. When Cory and Emma go off to College, he continues to write to her. Emma's sister, Lila, marries a man who tries to get rid of the muscadine vines and take over their farm. Cory's Father ends up taking on a hired man to help out with the chickens. Cory's brother Gus catches the hired man stealing, and Gus tells his Father who does not believe him. So Gus joins the armed services and goes to War forcing Cory to come home from College to check on the farm. When Cory arrives, he gets into a fight with the hired man and Emma's brother in law who has concocted a "scheme" involving the muscadine wine. As Justin goes about the business of re-renting the old farmhouse, he delves deeper into his Grandmother's past by reading the letters and makes a starling discovery. In the letters, Justin discovers the truth about his Grandmother's first love, his own heritage and learns something about himself in the process.

*COMPLETED* My head bowed in a heavy mannor, not in respect, but in trepidation. I discern his unwavering gaze over my ill silhouette. "Look at me." I opened my eyes, though it made no difference. Black is still black, all I am left with are my four senses. He will kill me if I don't look. He will kill me if I do. He will look into my sightless eyes and see my futile existence isn't worth living. He will kill me, and he will be doing the pack a justice by it. He growls a low, throaty snarl to warn me about disobeying an alpha. There will be consequences, we both know that. His lingering growls let me know he is not going to allow me to contravene his word. I steadily inch my head upwards, visibly shaking everywhere else. Maybe he won't notice my depthless eyes from across the gazebo. My life depends on it. "You're blind." ~ Monet was born into a particularly prestigious area of her wolf pack, to parents of extremely high standards. Her legacy is to become the packs next healer, but when she was born completely devoid of melanin, all her mated parents saw was a disappointment. Being born an albino wolf pup meant a lot for Monet, but it mostly meant her condition had taken her eyesight along with it. What happens when Monet meets the Alpha of a neighboring pack? Will he accept her for what she is? ~CONTENT WARNING~ This book contains depictions of physical abuse, foul language, and upsetting scenary. This book is in no way, shape, or form glorifying domestic abuse of a parent or partner. This book is intended for individuals who feel at odds with their self due to their uniqueness. It is meant to shine light on those who differ from the majority; conquering, and overcoming those who lessen them for what makes them special. ~ Word count at completion date: 33,915 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

So this was an idea I've had for a while now concerning the capital and states. I started out with Alaska, then moved to New York and it just snow balled from there. This book will start with Delaware, end with Hawaii and will put D.C. in middle with the rest of states from the 1700s. And if anybody wants to create fan art for them feel free to do it and if you want your art displayed here, I'll make a separate book just for the art. Please be mindful of the fact that these are my ideas on how they all look and act. Before anybody gets on me about Pennsylvania, I've read other stories where Penn is albino and can switch from acting like Prussia to Austria and back again with either a trigger word or song. I've done it so that even though Penn mainly acts like Austria, he will switch to Prussia if AND only when the family is being seriously threatened. The only countries who know about the capital and the states are as follows: 1. Russia, Ukraine, Belarus- reason is because of the purchase of Alaska back in 1867 and that New York decided to follow his grandma to meet this new potential sibling 2. Lithuania- we all know that he lived with Alfred for a time, so he one day literally ran into Alaska and from there meet the 50 of Alfred's children 3. Prussia- two words people VALLEY FORGE, it was not a good winter that year at all 4. Canada and Mexico- Mexico knew already because the states along the southern border are hers (yes, here Mexico is a girl named Esperanza) and Canada found out shortly after the war of 1812 Hope you all enjoy reading the book and as a pre warning, all and any flames will be used to roast marshmallows on bayonets (don't tell Gilbert about that last part) over backyard fire pits.

we both love the outsiders and johnnyboy so why not write oneshots about them?! the au we're going to mostly be using is that they're living in our time (still the same setting). here's some details about it: • ages: darry - 23, soda - 19, pony - 17, johnny - 16, dally - 20, steve - 20, two-bit - 21 and a half. (we upped everyone's ages by 3 except johnny, because we originally upped pony's by 3. so we made it fair) • dally lives alone with his two puppers :') their names are booper (a sheltie + corgi mix) and waffle (a dachshund)! (he's a college drop out, but has a paying job) • darry is a college graduate and has a job that he loves. soda, steve, and two bit are still in college and are living with their families. • pony and johnny are, of course, in high school. • everyone's families are the same. (except maybe the fact that their parents are willing to pay for school. idk if they don't in the book) • everyone's personalities are the same. (we're sorry if we don't do their personalities exactly correct) • we may do aus in aus! which basically means we might do something like, cafe aus but we'll still use the facts from the modern au we have here! - p.j (the outsiders belong to s.e. hinton!! we just made a few tweaks) ~~~~~~ (update 3/11/18) the book is now finished. with schoolwork being stressful, personal problems, and me and p.j. becoming more distant (heck they don't even use wattpad anymore), neither of us have much time or motivation to continue. we're sorry, and we hope you enjoyed the book while it lasted. - todd

There is an unexpected turn in the story that drastically changes the course of events and, in the long run, even the lives of those involved. Magpie, the first to be involved, suddenly finds himself in the world so unlike his own. Will he find his place there or will he be at least able to go back home? He seems to find his way back from this new world of giga-dimensions but something unwanted happens, and things go worse. The cultural differences, together with a challenging personality traits of another involved in the events, suck Magpie and his friends into a downward spiral. The story challenges you to see the world differently from the perspective you are perhaps too used to and narrowed by. Life can be an adventure if you don't narrow it with a bigotry that forces you to be rooted in your trenches and behind your dividing walls. This doesn't mean you have to accept others' views without standing your ground. However, to be able to share our lives in this one and only world we need to make compromises, on both sides. Are you the first brave one to set this positive trend in motion? So read on and let the foundation of the story be laid. From the end of episode 1 on, the story really picks up, finally reaching its climax at the end of episode 3 with quite a surprising finish. Your participation in solving this shared challenge of coexistence and cooperation is highly appreciated. Remember those who cooperate make more progress than those who don't! The ideal audience for my first book is actually between 12 and 16, but anybody older and interested in adventures, cultures and in getting more understanding into our multifaceted world is sure to enjoy the story. (The whole story has now been published, the only thing I'll still add is the final epilogue but the story is already available in its entirety.)
