The legendary work of the Grassmarket Project was a source of inspiration to people growing up in a world dominated by classical theatre as we changed the rules by putting real people on stage in touch with the difficulties of contemporaries, that made a young Sarah Kane, dramatist, say: 'It made me realise what I wanted to do with my life.'
We travelled the world with support from Susan Sarandon, Kenneth Branagh, Sean Connery, Ken Loach and Steven Berkoff, all drawn to the work by its ability to strike out and incorporate the marginalised, 'less desirables'; the National Theatre in London also furthered us when we worked with East End youths and Alan Yentob filmed 'The Foolish Young Man' at the re‐ opening of the Round House
