Amy is 18-- too young to officially captain the spaceship, but old enough to handle it when the captain decides to take a break (considering most of her crew members were inept to do anything other then the job they were hired for.) Amy, with a childhood poem stuck in her head, tries to ignore the captain's failure to run a ship in the same way the crew members ignore her when she takes over the ship during the night. Amy's poem is very important to her: "I would rather die in space, then live on Earth and never know what's up there." Now she's been given the chance to do what she wanted since she was a child, and as long as she could remember.
