I bit off a lot when I tackled Art of Destruction and recently started the sequel "The Spire" and am having a hard time. So, instead of setting down my pen and paper and giving up, I've decided to try something new; short stories. I'm not going to be pounding these out by any means but it's helped me stay in writing without giving me block.
Some short stories will last more than one chapter others may only be one shots.

She doesn't know where it came from or how it got there, but when the man turns his gun on her she shoots him. It would be easy for Evita to forget about where the gun came from and let her life return to normal, but its mysterious appearance won't stop nagging at her. When Evita starts asking questions Evelyn Sheer, the head of the city's Department of Energy, takes her captive and places her in a secret, underground research facility. Evelyn Sheer and the researchers are trying to create a genetic modification that enables humans to photosynthesize. Once in the facility, Evita is tagged as a test subject and loses all say over what happens to her body. She has to escape. By the time she comes up with a plan there is only one problem. Maxine is an 18-year-old girl who is bored and lonely, living in California in the year 2351. She's always been fascinated with how humans used to live in houses, drive cars, and the fact that there used to be forests and parks everywhere. Now, after a war that nearly erased humanity, people are forced to live a strict, dull, communist lifestyle. Everyone seems okay with this way of life. Everyone except Maxine. Maxine had always been special; she was often able to predict events. How? She didn't exactly know...yet. When she starts having dreams about a tropical island where people live as they did in the 21st century, she meets the man of her dreams: literally. Her new boiling emotions bring her to wonder...what if it's a real place? When she starts her search for the island and bumps into Elis-the man in her dreams-she suddenly knows it wasn't all just a making of her imagination. Finding that island could mean finding the answers to her burning questions, and maybe even answers to questions she didn't know she had. However, not everything is what she thought it would be when she finally finds the island, and her dreams become a harsh reality. Elis turns out to be someone else, and when another man swoops in every time Maxine is in danger, she becomes confused about what love really is. The Advisors, the ten women governing the world, want to assimilate the people of the island, not knowing that those people have an extreme advantage over them. Maxine also learns that her family has been lying to her about who she really is. Ultimately, when the Advisors come to destroy the island, she must face the fact that she is the key to the island's salvation, and embracing her rapidly developing abilities is the only way to do so.Complete

I didn't want to find out my whole life was a lie. I just wanted a bloody promotion. Guess fate had other plans? **** The cold air fanned over my face as I opened the door. The exit door lead to the back of the building so it was pitch black. I leaned against the wall trying to control myself. Blood was running down my arm and head. My hair was stuck to my face from all the sweat and blood. Everything was spinning around me and the ground seemed like it was shaking. Groaning I sat down and put my head on my knees. He knows who I am. He knows how I look like. He knows where I work so possible knows where I live. I am not safe anymore... no where. While I was in my own world I heard faint sounds behind me but I didn't bother to look or run away. The footsteps got closer and I was pretty sure it was Walker's men. I should run. I should try to fight. But what's the point in trying to run away? He would eventually find me and if he has his way he would most likely kill me. If this is my fate then why am I trying to fight it? I felt someone harshly grab my waist and pull me up and I complied. They dragged me down the alley and into the busy street. I heard the opening of a car and the next thing I knew I was being thrown into a car. My head hit the hard leather seat and the door shut behind me. Maybe this is how my life will end. Maybe I should just let it happen. Maybe I was destined to die alone as a no one. With that I let the darkness consume me.Complete

We are one of ten different compounds placed at strategic locations around the US. It's been thirteen years since the virus overtook humanity, turning about ninety percent of us into zombies. I'm not sure how it started exactly; that's classified information. I do know that in order to save what was left of the human race, the president at the time took a bunch of really smart people and kids and relocated them into new 'protected' cities. My father was one of those really smart people. I was only five at the time, but I knew what was happening." Within the walls of the compound, Jay makes stupid mistakes, mistakes even she doesn't understand, putting everyone inside at risk. All because she can't shoot someone. All because she misses the wind in her hair, the flowers on the hillsides, the sound of crickets at night. All because she's different, the only person untouchable by the Virus. Shit. The corners of her mouth pull up, and it's so unnatural, it takes me a moment to realize she's smiling. Major plastic surgery? Probably. Click. Did she just lock the door? She locked the door! I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on.
