The release of the new Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (VRMMORPG).
A solitary boy called Kazuto Kirigaya (Kirigaya Kazuto in Japanese), got trapped in it using the Nerve Gear... But not in the game is 'a piece of cake'. If someone dies in game, then that someone dies also in real life.
With the help of some other players (who later become his friends), and the female protagonist, Asuna Yuuki (Yuuki Asuna), he would be able to clean levels and beat bosses in order to escape from the game of death and go back to the real world, confronting the creator of all... Akihiko Kayaba (Kayaba Akihiko in Japanese).
