Loral Collins: Your average teenage girl who knows her way around the mall, not a gun. When the apocalypse hits her city of Manhattan, New York she quickly learns how close she can come to death. As she tries to outrun the plague she meets a mysterious boy who takes her under his wing and teaches her how to survive the elements of new and old.

Peter Philips: A former gang member and leader, Peter knows all there is to weapons and how to stay alive. Living alone with his dog, he tries to find his brother who lives on the other side of the country. Along the way he meets people who will either help him succeed in his mission or ultimately lead him to his down fall.

America: Home of the plague after a well planned terrorist attack, terror is stitched into the hearts of the millions who live there. After such a heavy blow the government is failing to maintain order and more and more soldiers are missing in action. Scientists are trying to find a cure for the outbreak but all antibiotics are useless, as is the last remaining hope.
