Nearly fifty years after the third world war, most countries have disbanded their militaries for more domestic law enforcement. While militaries may be mostly gone, terrorism and crime haven't stopped. Thus, the IDA was founded.

The international detective agency has existed for almost forty years now, recruiting only the best one percent of the top one percent of intelligent students around the world. These students are trained to see truth behind the lies blanketing the world and use their knowledge to protect the people they serve.

Even with the smartest people in the world dedicating themselves to fighting crime, violence doesn't stop. It has gone down, but something darker is surfacing. Criminals don't lose their urges, even if it becomes outweighed by fear, and there's someone out there who knows this. They plan to use this to their advantage. The IDA may fall in consequence, but if the IDA falls, so does everyone else.

Crime doesn't stop for law enforcement. It waits.

"We don't have a Caretaker. We have a Creationeer. And we love her." ~Humanity. We think we're from here, but are we really? What happened to us before then, and who was involved? Kit - a young B-Tier Creationeer - didn't want this job. She's not trained to be an Intelligent Species Caretaker, and yet she's forced to care for the last remnants of a damaged and traumatized humanity by an old, malicious evil. After carrying us around in a modified to-go habitat bubble for 18K years, Kit wants a vacation, but is hesitant to leave us alone on our new planet she built; Earth. She confides in Pan - an A-Tier Caretaker and Kit's best friend and roommate. She reveals the full story of how she came to be in possession of us and why she can't hand us over to a licensed Caretaker. Pan reveals the tragic truth of the first 10 years of our existence before Kit found us. The new knowledge Ignites a fire in both. So the two young Ethereals come up with another plan that involves the three grad school roommates, Pan, Sid, and Kit, taking us on a long road trip to the Andromeda galaxy for some good old fashioned revenge- justice. And also Screw Jim. (warning: Contains strong language.) We live on a bubble planet." :) ) NOTE: They're not gods. This is not theology. They don't have all the answers, they're not all powerful, and they can't do everything. She's always been there.

❖2021 Watty Awards Shortlist❖ Kevin was just a normal 10 year old kid until he saw a woman vanish right before his eyes. This made Kevin just a little bit different. He paid more attention to people now. Little did he know that this little difference would kill him the next time he encountered another alien about to return home. It would tear him apart, cell by cell, until he was unmade. His mind being transported away. --- So distantly far away there is a race that advanced to the point where they built dyson spheres to house their civilizations. In their continual expansion, they seeded galaxies with pods and connection satellites. Over time they upgraded their dyson spheres into matryoshka brain Cores. Imagine a computer powered by a star. Citizens of Cores no longer age once they upload their minds into the virtual living system of the Core. While they didn't age, most still choose to cycle through life and death though at a different scale of time compared to our lives. Citizens can visit other planets and live there as if they were on a "vacation". Mercury is Earth's hub connected to the closest Core and Earth is a remote vacation spot for wealthy citizens. When the main character was 10 he witnessed a citizen returning to the Core. The story continues 10 odd years later when he again witnesses a similar situation unfolding and manages to touch the person returning to the Core. This causes him to be swept up in the transfer as well and for his mind to join as a "Guest" user of the Core. As a Guest he has limited powers, a starting balance of zero cr or Citizen credits, and no idea how he can get home. He is the first human to ever become a Guest of a Core. Where money itself is the highest form of their science.

Mutants have existed long enough to be properly integrated into society, but not long enough for everyone to have accepted them. Outside of the United States, a hub for mutant immigrants fleeing the oppressive laws of their own countries, fear of mutant syndrome bleeds through the cracks in mysterious deaths, obnoxious court rulings, and social isolation. It isn't all sunshine and rainbows in America, either ⸻ some states are more progressive than others, and it's a constant battle over who has what rights and where. But there is one class of mutants that nearly everyone can agree on avoiding: Class F. The Freaks. For awkwardly tall and perpetually oblivious homeschooler Noah Kirby, all that exists is his house and the little graveyard on his street in North Carolina. When the opportunity comes along to enroll as a first-year at F Class Academy, an up-and-coming school for the most dangerous mutants of the generation, it means opening his eyes to an entirely new world, one where mutant life isn't as easy as he thought it was. Noah has three goals to ensure his start at FCA goes smoothly: 1. Befriend his moody Ability Management partner Amaris, so that they don't both risk failing the class, 2. Get to the bottom of why he keeps waking up surrounded by dissected corpses, and 3. Make it through the year without getting killed by one of his classmates' disastrous accidents. It may sound impossible, but with a dash of optimism and the help of a lot of new friends, he's confident he can make it work. FCA is nothing like he's ever seen before, but it can't be so scary. At the end of the day, mutant highschoolers are just like any other highschoolers... right? [ This story is unabashedly inspired by franchises I liked when I was a kid. I'm mostly writing it just for fun and for my friends to read, but if you also liked stuff like the X-Men, Percy Jackson, and Ever After High, you might have a fun time too! ]

[ 2019 ONC ambassador's pick and ONC shortlister ] The three degrees of Danger are as follows: Denial. You pretend that it's not there and you lie to yourself that it'll pass. It won't. The second stage is evolution. You tell yourself that the worst is over but you're gradually changing inside, slowly adapting to the new environment. The final degree of Danger is succumbing to temptation. You give up listening to your fading instincts, give in to the voices in your head and you give it your all. Because the world is changing and if you don't change with it, you're dead by daylight. *** Danger is a virus that is spreading through everybody's Software. It turns you insane, kills your moral compass. No one knows where it came from or how to stop it but one thing is clear- nothing will ever be the same. In a world where it's kill or be killed, you can't just stay on your toes and pray that you will survive. Murder is crucial if you want to live. These are the rules that Vic lives by as she races up the social ladder, ready to clinch the only thing that will vindicate her- the position of an Elite Killer, a title only given to the best serial killers. It is only when she meets a mysterious boy who refuses to play by the rules of society even when it means inevident death, does she start to challenge the system. In a world where mercy does not exist, Vic has to stop the deadly massacres without getting assasinated before the basic laws of a functioning civilisation starts to break down. Or is it already too late?
