Maddox Montgomery is a seventeen year old boy who lives on the streets with his father who can't seem to find a job long enough to get them into a stable living environment. When Lance (Maddox's dad) gets shot in a mugging he goes off the rail and tries to commit suicide.

Elliot Thorn is the twenty-four year old CEO of Thorn industries, they build shelters for homeless animals and people. Elliot is checking up on his shelter in Illinois when he sees a boy that he takes an interest in. Elliot makes good conversation with the young boy and promises to come back the next day to talk more. But little does Elliot know that Maddox doesn't intend to live till the next day.
