After the war, Draco Malfoy kept himself as a recluse. He was in such a dark place and was having trouble coping. He only ever left that dark place after he met his beloved wife, Astoria. She, and their son Scorpius, became his whole life. Draco whole believed in doing everything for those two.
After Astoria fell ill, Draco was devastated. He grew into an obsessive state trying to find a cure for her and it brought him back to that dark place in his soul. Once Astoria passed away, it drew Draco over the edge.
