Ranelu Rae. What do I make of this beautiful girl? She's sitting right next to me but yet... we feel so far away.
"What are you thinking about?" She asks.
I glance at her. "Oh, nothing."
She shrugs and goes back to her work.
I watch her. Her long orange hair sways as she writes. Her bright blue eyes sparkle with hints of green. Why is it that I feel so attracted to her? She's perfect, that's why.
When I first saw her I immediately knew I would have to get to know her. And now that I have, I'm stuck in a limbo between friends and something else. How can I tell if she likes me? How can I tell if she's even open to something like that? She's probably straight.
But either way, I'll still love her.

Briar is a freshman in high school, and the year isn't quite going as planned. It's her first full school year being completely out as biromantic and asexual, and she and her first semi-serious (as serious as an asexual relationship can go) boyfriend had just broken up over the summer. But when she meets Ranelu at freshman orientation, her mind is open to new possibilities.
Only, someone from the past is determined to make her life miserable. When her ex returns to try to become part of her life again, it quickly becomes obvious he has a twisted plan to hurt Briar and everyone she loves.

You ask, how is that possible? Well, Jinri been around for thousands of years or even more, cause of the fact that she blends in with the human world, being the only vampire alive, or so she thought. "I'm not," I sighed, trying and failing to sound convincing. "You're excuse for last night is that you were drunk.
