The girl spun and spun, leaping from one side of the stage to the other, twisting her body along to the music. At the highest of the music she would seem to explode, her tempo getting faster, her arms waving and legs moving, all so controlled but at the same time so raw. She'd shake in the anger and the pain she had sharpened into the weapon she was aiming at the audience. And then the music would slow and she'd do more gentle movements and at moments she'd look so fragile the wind could have broken her. She would spin in slow motion and bend her legs, have her foot pointing towards the sky and her head to the floor, forming the perfect arch, letting the sadness flow and drop from her fingers tip and onto the floor. She didn't have to say anything, her pain, her story, was written in her movements and paced. She didn't have to say anything to let the people watching know she was broken. • June is a mute dancer, expressing her thought into her body's movement more than she could ever in moving her hands into sign language. Orphan since nine, she now attends a boarding school, Royal Academy of Art, thanks to a scholarship she won at the nationals.
