Our entire community is built on the Assignment. Every year, every ten year old across the city, orphan or not, is taken to the Vector, the building in which we are placed together as we await our future. Inside the Vector is a garden, a butterfly garden to be specific. Millions of butterflies of every type are in the garden, each butterfly unique in its color and shape, each denoting a different job, a different duty to be done to our city. These butterflies choose their hosts and meld with their skin. That is how we are assigned.
Every one hundred years a deadly virus wipes out the population. The only survivor is Leona and no one is around to remember anyone else who has passed. Then out of the blue Leona runs into a boy, Asher, who seems to be the only other survivor. Should Leona trust Asher is a real person or is he sent to destroy her?
