Jake, an American boy, continues his job delivering supplies for the Consortium in North Africa. But it's a region increasingly torn apart by civil unrest and revolution. The poor want more help from the consortium. Local warlords and corrupt politicians want to keep their power. Jake has never experienced anything like it, being in the middle of a huge social upheaval. He has no clue what is going to happen, but he knows where he belongs, in the middle of it all.

The first human mission to Mars meets with near-disaster when a meteoroid strikes the spacecraft, almost destroying it. The ship is too far from Earth to simply turn around and return home. The eight-person crew must ride their crippled ship to Mars while they desperately struggle to survive. On Earth, powerful political forces that oppose human spaceflight try to use the accident as proof that sending humans into space is too dangerous to continue. The whole human space flight program hangs in the balance. And if the astronauts can't nurse their ship to Mars and back, the voyagers will become either the first Martian colonists-or the first humans to perish on another planet.

Although these things are true, Micah Love's current life as a Lunar Inc lab assistant is best categorized as discombobulated and complacent. After three years of hard work and no promotion in sight, a microaggressive boss, and a coworker who doesn't shut up, what can she do but dryly monologue? She doesn't hate her life, but there is a distinct lack of color and meh that paints every experience. Nothingness is preferred to adversity though. That is until one night, everything's ruined by a surprise at her doorstep. Jump in on the wild ride where Micah discovers the meaning of caring not just for others, but also for herself. Vitium Cavum. Or, the better known 'Hollow Disease'. Five years ago, in an alternate universe, scientists were on the verge of creating the immortality drug. Only, somehow, it escaped in the early stages of development, when everyone was working to rid of all the negative side effects. Those 'side effects' practically rip a person's soul away from them. Hence the name 'Hollow' Disease, because this virus makes whoever is affected an empty shell with no soul. Now, only a handful of people around the world are currently unaffected by this disease. Some of them had their families torn apart, some lost their friends, and some lost the person they were in love with. And that's where our story begins; in the year 2019, five years after Hollow Disease nearly destroyed the entire world. [Warnings: death, blood, violence, attempted suicide, suicidal thoughts, mentions of stillbirth, and other mature themes]

It's February 13th, 2037. Mars explodes soon after a colony had begun plans to drill into the crust. It wasn't the drilling that caused it, however. An evil lurked inside Mars. Growing ever since it was formed. Like an egg, it hatched in a big explosion. Releasing a creature beyond comprehension unto man. The story goes covered up, but some astrologists across America noticed. They wanted to bring the information to the light, and how this could possibly happen to Earth. They believed that every planet hosted these creatures, and Earth could very well hatch at any moment.
