L.O.V.E. by denissebloom04
30 parts Complete
100 years ago, amidst WW3's nuclear bombing, a deadly virus was released in the atmosphere and nearly wiping out the humanity. It lives inside the human brain thriving on the empathy receptors, leading to irrational behaviour and ultimately brain death. To slow the damage, scientists created L.O.V.E, short for Living Off Vital Emotions, a nanovaccine that numbs the virus and switches off all strong emotions. As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment. Those in the first stages of illness became ideal candidates to receive the neuroinhibitor. Having their feelings restrained and their memory altered, those who come of age are designated a life partner through a Selection process, thus preserving the humankind. A few decades after the trial had started, scientists had a major breakthrough. The nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. With a new generation of nanoids, stronger and smarter to fight the battle, the virus doesn't have a chance. Many attempts were made to create a man-made version of synthetic dopamine and each time the outcome was a disaster. Their goal is to create new generations, immune to the virus. These are called Purebloods, the offsprings of those who find pure love, the only cure to save them from a violent death. Running out of time, the Experiment entered in its final stages. To minimize the threats, the Colonies have sent their best soldiers to oversee the trial and protect its key subjects. If only things were going according to plan, or better...stay hidden. With Iron Guard, the resistance outside the walls, hunting the Purebloods too, will the trial save human race before it's too late? #3 in #dystopianfuture (27.06.2020)

A woman wakes in a train station, but it's not your usual station--it's AFTERLIFE, where souls line up after their deaths and wait to be sorted, sent to their final fate. But *how* did she get there, and why is she apparently dead? *** Evalilly doesn't even know *why* she ended up here, and has no memory of why she *might* be dead; but she's here, in Afterlife, in an office, talking to a train station manager who assures her that she's not quite alive. She's in a coma, and normally, comatose don't venture to Afterlife. Meaning she's actually...an anomaly--a soul that doesn't obey rules. While exploring the station, she stumbles into Juniper, a "ticket collector" with a penchant for not following orders. She takes Evalilly on a wild ride through the realms that compose Afterlife, and also exposes to her all the true facets of this world of the dead. These true facets hit Evalilly hard, and she's starting to wonder if it might be better if she woke up and forgot about all this; but a strange tether to Juniper makes her want to stick around and fight the cause Juniper stands for: Anomalies against Afterlife Injustices. But she's also terrified; if she dies, and isn't *in* the main train station when her body fully releases her soul, she may become lost forever, and her soul will never be given the chance to recycle... Evalilly wants that chance, but what if her fate is for her soul to wander aimlessly around Afterlife until the end of time? She'll only know if she wakes up...or dies.

Exile: The Book of Ever by JamesCormier
30 parts Complete
Centuries after the Fall, the United States has been wiped away. The crumbling remains of the great American empire are home now only to savage, lawless tribes and packs of ravening Damned-the twisted children of the apocalypse. Most of those few who survived humanity's destruction spend their short lives in a violent struggle for survival. But some light still flickers in the darkness: the Blessed of Bountiful live in seclusion, relying on walls both physical and spiritual to protect them from the Desolation that their world has become. Among them are the Saints, those few men and women born with superhuman abilities that the Blessed see as gifts from God. The violent apostate tribes of the Northeast Kingdom have always been a danger, but up until recently its small size and the vigilance of its people have made Bountiful an unappealing target. As attacks on the community grow harsher and more frequent, however, even the steadfast Blessed are forced to start preparing for the worst. With her home's very existence threatened, seventeen year old Ever Oaks, a Saint with the power to heal, is forced to make a difficult choice, one that may come to define her people's future... Exile was a semi-finalist in Mark Lawrence's Great Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off (#SPFBO). Fantasy Faction said it was "extremely cool," and Bookish Lifestyle called it "more than just a story, a journey and an experience." When I'm asked about it, I often describe it as "X-Men meets The Walking Dead." In addition to reading it here for free, you can buy Exile in e-book or paperback on Amazon.com.
