The world is different. After 99.9% of the population of women are killed, the girls who remain are precious. There are not enough women for the vast amount of men and so the wealthy formed The Flower Courts to purchase and keep the girls as their possessions. Olivia has known all her life that she will be bought, but that doesn't mean she likes the idea of it. Faced with the knowledge that she has no control over what happens to her and resenting the way women are treated, Olivia struggles to conform to what the world wants her to be. Women don't have the luxury of finding love. Women don't have the luxury of free will. This is all Olivia has ever known. Then she meets Kalin, a representative of one of the Flower Courts, and suddenly Olivia finds herself doubting everything she believes. He doesn't look at her the way the rest of the men do and doesn't treat her like something to own. But something dangerous is building and the world isn't as safe as Olivia believes it to be. Men want women, but they can't afford them. All that's left to do, is take them.
