Ryland Thomas is your average emo 17 year old girl. She's depressed and suicidal and doesn't give a care in the world. She stays off the radar at her school, no one even knows she exists. That is until Carter crashed into her, literally.
Carter Jacobs is your all-American skater boy. He has okay grades and is a track runner for his schools team. He's got his group of friends and girls throwing themselves at him. So what about her is different? What about her catches his eye?

There is this girl called Dakota and she is pretty shy. She is what you call the typical quite girl. Most people say that she is mute because of her lack of speaking but that isn't true. She does speak a lot but only in front her own family members. Dakota has her problems that keeps her from speaking up against the school bully, Kristina. She is so perfect but she ruins it by bulling Dakota. She beats all the emotions out of her whether it be physically or mentally or even both. These things continue to happen and Dakota starts to get desperate and does something that will change the course of her life.
