I trod carefully as I pushed my body deeper into the greenery. But it came as no surprise when I tripped over a branch and landed flat on my face. It was there when everything happened so fast. I can only remember parts of it.
The low growl.
The crunching of leaves growing closer.
The panic and terror washing over me as I struggled to free myself from a tangle of vines and tree roots.
Then the sharp burning of teeth in my thigh.
The high pitched blood curdling scream I released.
And the silence.
