Defcon 1
After the world fell, survival became a war of attrition. Clean water became currency. Morality became weakness. The government collapsed, and in its wake, chaos took root. Humanity didn't just fail---it adapted to failure. Varryance Preez was once a soldier. Now he's something else---an unwilling experiment trapped in a mountain facility, used by what's left of the government in a desperate search for a cure to the two man---made plagues that shattered the world. Inside him: a parasite that refuses to let him die. No matter how hard they try. But fate intervenes in the form of a masked mercenary---labeled a terrorist, shaped by war, and cursed with the same infection. He wasn't sent to free Varryance. And yet... he did. That moment rewrote everything. Now, hunted by the same forces that created them, both men walk a dying world---one seeking purpose, the other driven by a burden he never asked for. Their actions will drag hidden truths into the light and expose the last breath of a government too corrupt to stay buried. DEFCON 1 is a brutal post-apocalyptic thriller about duty, identity, and what happens when humanity becomes its own worst enemy.
