"Austin." I'm slowly leaning in. "You make me have butterflies in my stomach."

"I'm glad." I catch her looking at my lips. "You can stop staring, and just kiss them."

"Stoping looking at me!" Our noses are touching.

"You look so cute." I rest my hands on her hips. "Let me make this right." I make the first move, our lips finally touch once more. "Don't be so scared." I whisper, I gently bite her lip.

"Ah oww." I take full advantage, and use my tongue. She wraps her hands around me, I smile, and push her closer to me. I leave one more kiss on her lips, on her cheek, she opens her neck to me. I leave a kiss, her collarbone is showing I kiss her there. She's trying to calm down her breathing, let's make that our first kiss. Her cheeks are light pink. "I won't be excepting much from now on."

"Okay, thank you." I'm smiling at her, she makes me so happy. "Hey, so are we -" She stops there.

"Dating?" I shrug. "Are we?"

"I don't know."

"It's up to you." She looks around.

"Well I mean. If we both like each other, we should both give this a chance." She raises her eyebrow. "Oh um I should get going."

"Are you sure you're okay, sweetie?" she asks. I take the ice pack back. I nod, but it hurts. My brain feels jostled by the littlest movements. "Yeah," I gasp, holding in any acknowledgment of pain. "I'm fine. Thanks." She glances down, and I catch her eyeing my bruised shins. They took the brunt of the impact. "Football," I explain. She nods. "That's a rough sport," she says. A pause. She walks back to her desk. Then, she stops. She turns around. She looks me in the eyes. Her face is solemn. "Hit 'em harder," she instructs. I nod and almost smile. "I will." *********************************************** It's 1998, and seventeen-year-old Stephanie "Stevie" Rogers is attempting the unthinkable: she wants to be the first female football player at Truman High. Too bad the team, headed by her ex and a sexist coach, won't let it happen. Then of course there's her sexist step-dad, who can't know she's playing football or her life as she knows it would end. If it weren't for her cute guitar-playing best friend, Calvin, all hope might be lost. But with his help, and the discovery of a secret so scandalous it could rock the entire school, she may finally get her time under the stadium lights. *************************************************************************** "You're outnumbered. You need allies if you're gonna survive the season. These guys are gonna have your back. You need them." "I don't need anyone," I insist. "Ha," he hiccups. "Yes, actually, you do." He ploinks me on the nose. I scowl. "No one is invincible." I continue to scowl. He sighs. "Just trust me on this one. Okay?" My face softens a little. He's just trying to help. "Fine," I comply. "But don't expect me to smile about it." He grins. "That's too bad. You're pretty when you smile." "Shut up."

"Why is it that whenever I try to get closer to you, you always shy away from me?" Aiden asks, hurt dripping from his voice I look at him and instantly i'm filled with regret and fear. "You wouldn't understand Aiden." I say pleading with him "Try me," He challenges. "Listen," I pause. "I need you to understand that when I push you away, it's because it's the only thing I know how to do anymore." He opened his mouth to say something but she stopped him, holding her palm up like a white flag. "You need to understand that everyone else has left and my problem," I say raising my voice. "My problem is that I'm scared," "I'm scared of getting too attached to someone, until eventually, that someone has the power to control me. To end my world when they feel like it." Aidens eyes bore into mine but he doesn't say anything. "Are you attached?" He asks. I glance away and then back at him nodding "With you? Too much." I say as a tear rolls down my left cheek "I'm scared that you are going to leave." I whisper as Aiden wraps his arms around me. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••• A grumpy figure skater and a golden retriever Hockey Captain.
