This is a chapter from my recently published book, Vagrants in Paradise. It's a nonfiction account of my time volunteering on three organic farms on the Big Island of Hawaii with friends and the misadventures and life lessons endured throughout. Eccentric characters come and go as we bumble our way through a minimalist lifestyle with half a clue as to our daily plans. Bizarre and educational calamities find us incessantly.
:This chapter brings one to the scene of an accident when the brakes decide to give out in the boys' big green cargo van a few months into the trip. It appears as though their debaucherous escapades are in flux as the police siren their way to the scene on the busy Kailua-Kona strip:

The Moving Times Of Caroline Proudly
Caroline is 16 when she suddenly decides that her perfectly normal and loving home life is absolutely and completely intolerable. Suddenly moving out of home in 1988 is the beginning of a 13 year journey. As the journey continues, the passage of time has no significance. Always with the ability to find the humorous side, each address marks another chapter in Caroline's life and is the backdrop for the people she meets and the events that occur. Accommodation varies from unheated rooms and houses with wheel-less cars jacked-up outside to Regency flats and rural cottages. Events vary from harbouring boarding schoolgirls, exercising racehorses, the occasional rave, trading in shampoo and marmite on toast to looking for stolen laundry, going undercover and self-defence with a hockey stick. Jobs vary from not having one to shop work, bartending and au pair through to getting a toe on the corporate ladder. There is infatuation, and love from various sources so there is also disappointment, and breakups by varying means and for various reasons. Education varies from a bit of formal study to a large dollop of the University of Life. The latter being the real reason Caroline left home in the first place - to grow up in her own way through her own experiences with no-one else to blame but herself and the interesting hand that life deals along the way. Caroline moves home 19 times, only to find that the 20th move takes her to the last place she ever expected to be. Back where she started. Things aren't always as they seem...Complete
I Remember
I decided to write this memoir for my kids. Kalina, Braylon and Bryce. I wanted them to know how I grew up and what all happened when I was a child. Maybe one day they can sit down and read this little book and remember MOMMA. I want to also apologize if this memoir offends any family member, every one has their memories of events in their lives. Let me tell mines as I lived them and as they were told to me by other family members during my lifetime. This book is filled with traumatic yet funny memories of my upbringing. It's a tell all from what I went through, in my eyes not anyone else's. Hope you enjoy reading this as I've enjoyed writing it. It's not meant to seek pity, instead it's written to shine light on the real problems of society. poverty, single moms, the damage due to drugs, incest, abuse and most of all, origins of brokenness. I am just a school girl. So I thought.... Come read the story how me and my friends go on a crazy adventure we never thought would be real. The best decision I ever made was when I moved to paradise nine years ago. I've met and entertained many beautiful women while living here in Hawaii, with those women changing what I first thought would be paradise and making it to be more of an erotic heaven.
