This is a chapter from my recently published book, Vagrants in Paradise. It's a nonfiction account of my time volunteering on three organic farms on the Big Island of Hawaii with friends and the misadventures and life lessons endured throughout. Eccentric characters come and go as we bumble our way through a minimalist lifestyle with half a clue as to our daily plans. Bizarre and educational calamities find us incessantly.

I decided to write this memoir for my kids. Kalina, Braylon and Bryce. I wanted them to know how I grew up and what all happened when I was a child. Maybe one day they can sit down and read this little book and remember MOMMA. I want to also apologize if this memoir offends any family member, every one has their memories of events in their lives. Let me tell mines as I lived them and as they were told to me by other family members during my lifetime. This book is filled with traumatic yet funny memories of my upbringing. It's a tell all from what I went through, in my eyes not anyone else's. Hope you enjoy reading this as I've enjoyed writing it. It's not meant to seek pity, instead it's written to shine light on the real problems of society. poverty, single moms, the damage due to drugs, incest, abuse and most of all, origins of brokenness. We all have a story to tell, mine is of survival. It didn't happened to me it happened for my good. God is good!! Be blessed.

The best decision I ever made was when I moved to paradise nine years ago. My heart was pounding in my chest so hard that I thought it was going to rip out any minute now as I stared back at the man I thought I had once loved with all my heart. Pain burst through me. He still looked the same except his gorgeous blue eyes that once held a mischief glint in them now were dark and empty. I gulped and tightened my grip on Ariel's small hand as he took in my features and then his eyes slowly travelled down to the little girl who was eating her ice-cream as if nothing was wrong. "Look it was nice seeing you again Jason, but I've got somewhere to be-" I was cut off as arms wrapped around my waist and I was pulled back into a hard chest, "Baby, there is no chance I am letting you go this time, I've searched too hard and long for you." Jordan Raine's life was as normal as any university student's life could get until a man with blue piercing eyes comes waltzing into her life or more like classroom and turns her average life into a screaming roller coaster ride and then all of a sudden the rails are breaking and she's flying off head first into the ground.
