It Must've Been Love

Annaliese loved her boyfriend. He loved her back, she knew it was true. He just expressed it differently. Others called it abuse, she called it tough love. Every hit, every insult, every girl he cheated on her with; they were all just things that he did to show her how to be better. Better at loving him, at making him feel like he was superior to her, like she already knew he was.

Mark hated her boyfriend. She refused to see that what that scumbag was doing to her was wrong. She never listened when he told her that that was no way for her to be treated. She never listened, but when things got too abusive, Mark had no choice but to step in and solve the problem.
