Seventeen year-old, Jessica Stevens, was only six years old when she watched her mother, father and brother all get brutally murdered before her own eyes, and ever since then, she had been floating through the foster system. She has ten and a half months before she ages out of the system, but right before she thought she was finally on the stretch to freedom, Jess was placed in the household of Mayor Nathan Jameson. He may be a businessman to the rest of the town, but he stumbles home almost every night, drunk, and abuses Jess. At the park, she meets Allison Taylor, a twenty five year-old lesbian who just moved into town on a new job offer. When they are introduced to each other through a mutual friend, they hit it off and end up making their way back to Allison's place to hook up. Though Jess couldn't remember much from that night, she did notice the face she had been kissing was the one that walked in to be her new, permanent, calculus teacher.
