Ecuador is one of the smallest South American countries, but it has a biodiversity that is second only to Brazil, the biggest country on the continent. First attracted to Ecuador by the immensely popular Galapagos Islands, we kept returning to it for its beaches and mountains, each blessed with stupendously rich fauna and flora. It's the mystic power of the mountain gods (still worshipped throughout the highlands) that keeps drawing us back year after year. We spent numerous weeks traveling along Avenida de los Volcanos visiting quaint indigenous villages, as we hiked to oxygen-starved heights to take the perfect picture of a crater lake, waterfall, or smoking volcano. The coast is no less fascinating. We spent endless golden days traveling along Ruta del Sol and Ruta del Spondylus enjoying fresh oyster cebiche and spectacular sunsets! In the small fishing ports we observed the daily ritual of bringing in the morning catch with hundreds of pelicans swarming the boats laying claim to some of it. For the fishermen, it was just another day: for us, it was an unbelievable experience. What more could one want? Well, there is also the fabulous rainforest, which takes one back to primordial times! Join me as I recount the wonderful experiences we had in this fascinating country.

New Zealand -1500 miles on foot through- The Land Of The Long White Cloud by ColinSkinner2
21 parts Complete
Imagine a place where the constellations of stars above your head are different from those you have ever seen, where the night sky can glow with strange swirling lights, and where the cold of winter comes when summer arrives elsewhere. Imagine a land of volcanoes, jagged white-topped mountains, rivers of ice, deep forests of ancient trees, and dark caves where carnivorous grubs glow like stars to lure in their prey. This is a land torn apart by earthquakes, and surrounded by waters filled with giant sea creatures: its people once fierce warriors who worshipped mysterious spirits. This is not some fictional place- this is New Zealand. With a tent and a backpack, Colin Skinner set off to explore the magical geography, wildlife and people that make the islands of New Zealand such a unique place. Isolated from other land masses for around 85 million years, the land is a 'Jurassic Ark', where animals and plants from the time of the dinosaurs have somehow survived. Ancient tree ferns, plants that produce spores rather than seeds, and primitive relatives of pine trees still grow in the forests. Among the unusual creatures that still live in New Zealand are flightless ground-dwelling birds, and ancient reptiles that have hardly evolved in the last 100 million years. With this fantastic land as a back drop, Colin Skinner went off the beaten track to find the people and stories that have been shaped by what is around them. Travelling alone, and on foot, he stayed with Maori people and conservation workers, who are striving to protect the amazing land that is New Zealand. Walking through the heart of an active volcano, suffering near exposure on the windswept and rainy Desert Road, and debilitating food poisoning before crossing the Haast Pass to reach journey's end... all are part of the story. photos at http://www.facebook.com/NewZealand1500milesonfoot

CHUPACABRA

29 parts Complete

Watty's Shortlist: Wild Card! All Forty knows is blood. It's what she drinks, what's spilled from her. The life of a Chupa, a person infected with the Chupacabra virus, is not easy, especially for a damaged one like Forty. Unlike her brethren, Forty has a low drive for blood and relatively undeveloped predatory features. Thirty-Seven is everything Forty isn't. He's loud, angry, and a top specimen. When the two clash, a series of unfortunate events lead to a strained partnership and many questions. How far will humans go to save themselves? What will you do for the one you love? How can you grow in a world that so badly wants to hold you back? It will be bloody, but Forty will answer for herself. *not Beta read* *currently under heavy editing*
