When Kaydee's father and sister Rae die in the games within a span of five years, her mother loses it. She is barely holding on to her own sanity, but she has to stay strong for her mother. When Kaydee is reaped as the district 7 tribute for the 56th annual hunger games, she feels hopeless. That is, until she starts talking to Hayden Right, the district two tribute. He finally gives meaning to her life and makes her feel safe in her time of need. But being from different districts, and in the games together, the term "star crossed lovers" would be an understatement. He claims that he would die for her, but when her mother's life depends on her return home; can she take his word for it? And more importantly... Would she let him?
