Back in 1992, Jonathan Parker and Shawn Nyles were funded by the U.S. government to make an advanced self-adapting anti-virus software called Alpha01. A few months later, they came to them with a request: create an advanced self-adapting malware that could be remotely controlled to retrieve data from any device, Alpha02.

In the 2020s, many biotechnology companies existed all over the world and were helping to advance mechanical augmentations, making them commonplace in society but was still controversial. One such company, Sarif Industries, which had been founded in 2007 and had quickly grown to become one of the major biotech companies by 2027. By 2027, Multinational biotech corporations specializing in human enhancement are competing for dominance in what has become a controversial field. Many engage in wars against each other, employing thieves, moles, and hackers to steal their competitor's ideas. To protect it's research, Sarif Industries has recently developed it's own internal security force. Enter Adam Jensen, the newly appointed head of Security of Sarif. (Story edited so it would work as my school project story.)
