Normani has been torn between her best friends Camila and Dinah for years. When Camila makes her choice to pursue her solo career and split from the group, Normani is troubled and has to contemplate what role she will play in her life. In addition she concerns herself with if loving Dinah was just her fallback plan. 

Dinah who is use to having no obligation to anyone finds herself with more than one lover. Eventually she is ready to settle down, but only when she wants to. As the most free character of this book, some believe she is the "She" the title focuses on. 

Lauren, a sexual deviant struggles with balancing sex, drugs, and emotions. She finds herself soon enough. 

Camila is not good at letting go, she shows that in her infrequent visits with Normani. When Normani moves on, Camila refuses to see it. Normani's love interest won't be a friend of Camila's and if she has anything to do with it; she won't last long either.

An unknown force seems to be in the business of making hell for all of these girls but yet she seems to have a soft spot for Camila....oops, did I say "she"?
