With a grudge against both of the heroes, crustacean Tamatoa returns from the realm of monsters to try yet again to claim the heart of Tafiti and to steal Maui's hook. In an effort to stop him, Moana is kidnapped and held hostage in the realm of monsters, leaving her fate and the fate of the island in the hands of her best friend, Alohi Kahele and Maui the demigod.
