It wasn't that they didn't know it.
In fact, it was something Stanford and Fiddleford knew far too well of. But however mutual this feeling may be, it certainly wasn't something they wanted to discuss. Not in a grounded sense, anyways.
However, one incident forces them to share a night of unsuppressed closeness.

Fiddleford McGucket was living happily with his new wife and their young son, Tate. Sure, the family didn't have a lot of money, but they got by, and they were happy. One day, Fiddleford received a call from an old college friend asking him to come help with a large project he was working on. There was a lot of money wrapped up in this deal for Fiddleford, but taking it on would mean leaving Ada and Tate behind, for at least a few months.
