They were still in their own time, but they didn't know that until they helped their friends. When they got back to their own times, she knew she still had her powers, but Derek didn't. When she is suddenly faced with decisions she never thought she'd have to make, pretending to be someone she isn't, and all the while trying to reason with an old childhood friend caught up in the memory of who she was as kids, and desperately trying to find a way out she has to find a way out at all cost. When she does find a way out she finds someone else who did too and somehow came out a better person. She also finds she can't help being drawn to him. She had thought she knew what her life was and when it came crashing down on her she was forced to step back as others tried to tell her where it should go.
