By this time magic is outlawed and those that practice are persecuted. Kala was born a naturally gifted person who grew up with the ideology that magic is something that should be shared and used for the benefit of society. Her aunt teaches her the ways of her people and how to practice her talents safely. It is when a spy is sent in to receive a magic binding tattoo that Kala's life is turned upside down. Now on the run and wounded she has to find safety before the law catches up with her and sets her to die.
