Carmen Rease is Lakeview Heights High's on nerd girl and misfit. Despite her rich best friends popularity, some of it doesn't seem to rub onto her. Very frequently she is made fun because her family is neither rich or famous like all the other students in her grade and especially because she is on scholarship there. But Carmen has a strange secret that know one knows or suspects. By day, Carmen is an outcast and by night? She is the most top notched break-dancer on the street. By the stage name of Alley she battles and performs at clubs no one at school suspects that she attends Pandemic Dance Academy. If word gets out to the school, she just might lose her scholarship and one hope to afford collage. Only her best friend knows of this secret and Carmen plans on it staying that way...until a new kid enters the school by the name of Nat Ryans. Cute, hot and talented all the girls are grabbing for him but for some reason he slowly gets interesting in Carmen and starts to pry at her secret life. Carmen has to choose between trust and friendship or risk her biggest secret getting out. The wrong choice might make her lose it all.

The matriarch of the family hates her criminal record. Sammy, the seven-year-old, is too clingy, too innocent, and too naive to understand anything. Then there's Jay, the guy she's forced to share a room with. A self-righteous son of a bitch, Jay doesn't understand Carmen and doesn't understand her self destructive way of thinking. Though he's not bothered by her, he's fascinated with her. The family represents the structure and rules that Carmen doesn't, nor wants to, understand. But as Carmin starts to push back at the structure and rules suddenly rushed into her life, it starts to change. Her whole way of living is thrown off balance, what she deems normal isn't. And through a series of events, she starts to spiral out of control, and she doesn't know if someone can pull her up from that.
