Brooke Sullivan is your typical 19-year-old California girl. She has just graduated from Huntington Beach High, has a part-time job at a local gas station, and is excited to start life on her own. Like most recent high school graduates, she has no idea what she wants to do with her life. With no real plans to go to college or no certain career path, she decides to just go wherever life takes her. The only problem? She hadn't expected it to take her backwards.

You see, Brooke isn't so typical after all. She is the younger cousin of Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, a founding member of one of the most popular metal bands to date - Avenged Sevenfold. Not only is Brooke his cousin, but she was raised by Jimmy after her father died in a tragic car accident when she was only six years old, and her mother was an avid drug user. Brooke came to love Jimmy and his four friends, and became one of the metal world's best kept secrets.

After Jimmy's death in 2009, Brooke was sent off to live with her older sister while her cousin's best friends attempted to heal from the terrible loss. Contact between them became few and far between until finally ceasing all together. That is, until her sister and brother in-law plan a graduation surprise like no other.

After being apart for so long, can the relationship between Brooke and her late cousin's bandmates ever be the same? Will she ever be able to accept Arin, the young drummer they recruited to take her cousin's place? As Brooke learns new and dark things about the four men she once considered family, she learns things about herself that she never knew as well. The question is - will she use this knowledge to mend her broken past, or to burn the bridge to her future?
